Hannah, our Sales Manager at McArthurs Yard, enjoyed one of the best city views for the Bristol Balloon Fiesta, watching about 100 hot-air balloons lift off from Ashton Court Estate, turning the early morning sky into a vivid display of color.
The 2025 Bristol Balloon Fiesta runs from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 August. It features two mass balloon ascents daily, weather permitting: at dawn (around 6am) and dusk (around 6pm). From McArthurs Yard windows, one can experience the serene pre-dawn launches—the glow of burners lighting the balloons and the gentle rise over Bristol’s skyline.
In the evenings, the Nightglow event occurs on Friday and Saturday, where dozens of balloons glow in sync to a soundtrack provided by BBC Radio Bristol, creating a magical atmosphere ideal for socializing and entertaining guests. On Sunday, the fiesta closes at 6:30pm.
During the day, the main arena at Ashton Court Estate buzzes with balloon-themed activities beyond the flights. These include stunt displays, marching bands, live music on stages such as Brizzle Kicks and Moon Stages showcasing local talent, family yoga, interactive challenges, and various trade and food stalls. There are opportunities to meet pilots, enjoy motorcycle stunt performances, and explore a new attraction called “In The Clouds,” where visitors can step inside a cold-inflated balloon with an immersive soundscape simulating a pilot’s flight experience.
While balloon flying is highly weather-dependent, requiring low winds and suitable conditions, the robust festival program ensures plenty of entertainment even if flights are delayed or canceled.
The event is free to attend, but parking requires pre-booked tickets. Public transport via shuttle buses from Bristol Temple Meads is available with advance booking recommended.
The fiesta is a not-for-profit event run largely by volunteers, marking its 47th edition in 2025, celebrated as one of the city’s signature summer festivals, drawing tens of thousands of visitors.
