Pontoon Dock station is poised for a significant transformation after Transport for London (TfL) confirmed a new wave of funding to support a comprehensive upgrade. The announcement marks a major milestone for the Royal Docks area, promising improved connectivity and accessibility for thousands of commuters and residents.
The upgrade, secured through a partnership between TfL, the Greater London Authority (GLA), and Homes England, will see Pontoon Dock station modernised to accommodate growing passenger numbers and support the ongoing regeneration of East London. The enhancements are designed to complement the wider Silvertown Quays regeneration project, which aims to deliver new homes, commercial spaces, and public amenities in one of London’s fastest-developing districts.

Agenta in Silvertown is collection of stylish 1 and 2 bedroom apartments available to buy through Shared Ownership.
Key Improvements Planned
According to TfL, the station upgrade will include step-free access, expanded ticketing facilities, and improved passenger information systems. The project also promises enhanced safety features and a more welcoming environment, making it easier for people of all ages and abilities to use the station.
A TfL spokesperson said, “This investment is a vital part of our commitment to making London’s transport network more inclusive and future-ready. The improvements at Pontoon Dock will help unlock the full potential of the Royal Docks area, supporting sustainable growth and better journeys for everyone.”
Supporting Local Growth
The funding package follows a joint effort by the GLA and Homes England to prioritise transport infrastructure in East London. As part of the Silvertown Quays regeneration, thousands of new homes and jobs are set to be created, with upgraded transport links seen as essential to the project’s success.
A GLA representative highlighted the strategic importance of the station upgrade: “Reliable, accessible transport is at the heart of successful regeneration. The Pontoon Dock improvements will help ensure that new and existing communities in the Royal Docks are well-connected and able to thrive.”
Next Steps
Work on the Pontoon Dock station upgrade is expected to begin later this year, with completion targeted for 2027. TfL has pledged to keep local residents and businesses informed throughout the process and to minimise disruption wherever possible.
The investment underscores the commitment of London’s authorities to deliver world-class infrastructure and support the city’s continued growth.
